Nominating Committee National Leader |
|
As a long time member and leader in the Academy, I bring demonstrated leadership and a desire to support my profession. I have substantive knowledge of issues facing the Academy and that are of great importance to members. These issues include recognition of the RDN as the nutrition expert, engaging members in research to demonstrate clinical and cost effectiveness for reimbursement of services, and promoting diversity. As a 4-year member of the Academy Positions Committee with the last two years serving as chair, member of the Research Council, 11 years as a media spokesperson, and chair of a practice group, I operate as a team player and am results-oriented. I am a staunch supporter of the Academy and have been active at all levels of the Academy since 1975 when I became a registered dietitian. |

Chair, Academy Positions Committee | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | Serving 4 years on the APC, 2 as chair, has given me the opportunity to advance the Academy mission by working with a committed core of volunteers who author, review, and manage the process of getting Academy position and practice papers from concept to publication. We have worked as a team with other Academy units, such as Quality Management, Legislative committees, and CDR to ensure the position and practice papers are used strategically to promote our profession.
Chair, SCAN | American Dietetic Association | - | I have been an active member of SCAN and was pleased to assume leadership positions, first as continuing education director (where we planned symposium) to chair. Leading one of the largest DPGs whose members are passionate about their area of practice took strong organizational skills and promoting the right people to chair various committees. SCAN members are experts in sports nutrition, wellness, disordered eating, and cardiovascular health and finding common ground is a skill needed by chairs of SCAN. SCAN has grown into a vibrant and respected DPG with strong leadership and I am honored to be one of them.
National Media Spokesperson | American Dietetic Association | - | Serving as a national media spokesperson for the Association (as it was called when I served) for 11 years gave me a voice in the media to provide evidence-based food and nutrition information to media. This experience was the most valuable in my career. The media training provided by the Association helped me build confidence as a communicator which in turn, helped me in all phases of my career, including current leadership positions within the Academy. After 11 years as media spokesperson, I was asked to write a weekly column for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which I did for 5 years. The media reach is important to disseminate our vision and mission. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
