Past Chair NDEP Council (new entity formed from the merger of Educ Comm & NDEP DPG) | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As the Past Chair, I used my experience in DEP--Area VII Coordinator, Lead Area Coordinator, three-year term as Chair of DEP DPG, one year on Education Committee---to help elevate NDEP from a DPG to a new organizational structure that will have maximum benefit for the educators and the Academy. I worked with the NDEP Council to put together a strategic plan, governance document, committees and task forces. We are certain that by providing the NDEP Council high-level staff support and the ability to communicate with the board, NDEP will be able to expedite initiatives that not only help educators, but also benefit the Academy's broader goals to advance nutrition and dietetics education and practice. Joint Leaders Meeting (Jan 2013) Represented NDEP at the joint meeting of members representing ACEND, CDR, CFP and NDEP to discuss the next steps related to the Council on Future Practice Visioning Report recommendations on the continuum of education, credentialing and practice. |

Chair, NDEP DPG | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | Name Change: In solidarity with the Academy, our DEP executive committee worked expeditiously to approve changing the name from Dietetic Educators of Practitioners to NDEP by adding “Nutrition” and recognizing the important role of “preceptors” to NDEP (Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors). Our membership approved the name change with a thumping majority and the name became effective January 2012. Preceptor Recruitment Efforts: o In keeping with our new name, and as a way to thank our preceptors for all that they do for our students, the EC worked with the Academy staff to provide preceptors free membership for a one-year period (2012-13). A whopping 1,107 preceptors took advantage of this free one year membership and some of them have continued as members. o Coordinated the “Outstanding Dietetic Preceptor Awards” (jointly cosponsored by the Academy Foundation, ACEND and NDEP) over the past three years. Publications and Communication An important issue identified at the NDEP strategic planning meeting in 2008 was the need to develop a venue for educators to publish peer-reviewed articles focused on dietetics education. The project finally came to fruition after negotiations with our Academy Journal to publish education related articles, four times a year, under the Practice Applications section. NDEP Reorganization Visioning Retreat (March 2012) With more and more of our proactive dynamic educators/preceptors being on the forefront working in close collaboration with ACEND, the Education Committee, and the Council on Future Practice to find solutions for many problems facing dietetics education, practice and credentialing, I called for a visioning retreat to discuss ways to become more efficient and avoid duplication of work and resources. At this meeting a draft proposal was developed for a merger between the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Education Committee and the NDEP DPG. |

Education Committee, Member | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As the Education Committee de-commissioned as a free-standing entity and merged with the new NDEP unit within the Academy, the group worked on many of the initiatives mentioned above. One additional contribution was helping populate the Education Committee Portal with material for NDEP members. |
|
Area VII Coordinator, DEP DPG | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | We moved from seven Area Meetings to four Regional Meetings with a common agenda. This allowed for better coordination, gave members the flexibility to attend any Regional Meeting, all while making some money for NDEP. Online Registration was brought in and even an online “Go-to-Meeting” option was tried out. |

Vice President, Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York | Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York | - | Elected as VP for 2 terms. While I enjoy my professional career immensely and have had many fulfilling leadership experiences, I am also very involved within our Zoroastrian community. I strongly believe that our youth of today are the future of tomorrow. As current Vice President and past Secretary of ZAGNY, I enjoy working with our youth members and encouraging them to take on leadership roles. Whether it is fundraising efforts or encouraging them to be speakers at various colloquia, I have found all of these small experiences to be extremely rewarding. As a parent of two teens, I also strongly believe that our children and students learn the principles of leadership, not just by hearing what we tell them but also by overhearing, and by seeing the examples we set. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Campaign Statement
I have shown leadership and ability to think creatively and futuristically by working expeditiously in collaboration with educators on numerous NDEP initiatives. I will work hard to build an effective two-way communication to overcome the perceived adversarial relationship between educators and CDR
