Candidate teaser. Tell voters something about you as a leader that will draw their attention to you and want to make them read your full bio.

As your leader I will position ADA to be recognized as the preeminent organization engaged on issues that improve the health of Americans through nutrition strategies.

Describe how you would advance the Association's Strategic Plan

Making certain my fellow members embrace the vision surrounding the strategic plan as well as its components. My approach is to continue the process of a strategic plan roadmap that enables members to see tangible evidence of how the strategies put forth by ADA BOD will impact them in their day-to-day professional careers. I would also continue to evaluate the family of measures to ensure the tactics proposed for each strategy is both valid and reliable.

Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience where you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.

The Marilyn Magaram Center for Food Science, Nutrition & Dietetics, a 501c3 organization, our mission is improving the quality of life of our communities through enhancing food and nutrition knowledge of students, professionals, and families. During my tenure as the Center Executive Director we have raised over a million dollars and converted those funds into programs and services that support the fight of overcoming health disparities in under served populations in our communities.

Describe an issue affecting the profession that you are most passionate about and actions you have taken related to this issue.

Health care reform is currently the most important issue facing our profession. Nutrition is a key tenet of this reform as reflected in discussions on Capitol Hill. The focus on the role of food and nutrition in promoting health has placed ADA public policy and advocacy efforts in the forefront. We must evaluate our strategies to strengthen our presence in this arena. I have and will continue to support tactical efforts such as advocacy, strategic issues communication, and coalition building as mechanisms to not only place us at the right table but give us the voice that speaks to optimizing the health of our nation through food and nutrition.

Describe your experience in the area of public policy and advocacy at the state, local or national level.

Legislative advocacy is instrumental in understanding the grassroots of our organization. ADA must be proponents of improving American health by impacting food and nutrition policy at all levels. I am actively involved with ADAPAC and attend each legislative workshop in the endeavor to remain equipped with the tools to participate in the policies that underpin all ADA strategies and to continue to influence policy and public opinion.
