Nominating Committee National Leader |
|
Serving as an Academy Spokesperson for the last 8.5 years has allowed me to really get to know our organization. I understand the mission and purpose as well as what's required for forward movement. As a former affiliate president and in my work as a manager, I've learned that I am good at matching people with tasks that play to their strengths. I'm grateful for a strong national network of colleagues. I am fair and impartial when evaluating people and situations. I'm not afraid to ask pointed questions to thoroughly screen prospective leaders and create a slate of qualified candidates. I've also had practice. I’ve served on the nominating committee for the Nutrition Entrepreneurs DPG and my state and local dietetic associations. |

Academy Spokesperson | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | For the past 8.5 years, I've served as a media resource answering calls and proactively engaging the media to deliver the accurate food and nutrition messages. With over 4,600 mentions in the media on behalf of the Academy, I've helped elevate the RD brand in traditional media. I regularly engage in online conversations about food and nutrition and promote @EatRight and @KidsEatRight content via social media. To help prepare and encourage other RD/RDNs, I've conducted media trainings and instruction for GA and NC state affiliates, local dietetic organizations and the AODA. I also contribute written content to the Academy's Stone Soup and Cutting Board blogs, volunteer in cooking and educational videos and provide diet and lifestyle book and product reviews as needed.
Nominating Committee | Nutrition Entrepreneurs DPG | - | Worked with the other committee members virtually to identify and interview prospective candidates and organize the 2013 ballot with minimal direction. Being down one member, I was happy to jump in to get the ball rolling. NE is currently thriving with our elected leadership.
President/ President-Elect | Georgia Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics | - | Led volunteer staff and board members including a paid executive director, board members and managed independent contractors. • Saved association 12% of previous year’s operating budget in one year. • Increased membership by 5% in one year. • Managed rebranding project from cradle to execution (website and logo design, roll out and integration). • Negotiated contract labor successfully for cost-effective use of association funds. • Cultivated new relationships with community, state and national organizations and the media. • Enhanced communication channels and member services including webinars, social media and more. • Led legislative strategy for advocacy, visibility and action in state and federal affairs. • Revamped and implemented the new strategic plan. |

Board Member At Large | Robinson Council of Young Business Leaders | - | Served as the communications contact responsible for promoting networking and educational events. RCYBL is a newer organization. I helped shape and define the roles and responsibilities of the communications chair position.
Advisory Board Member | Morrison’s Chartwells Dietetic Internship | - | A member of the inaugural advisory board, I worked with the other board members to develop and review the internship's outcomes measures and essential components to give the interns the best learning experience. In addition to being available for surveyor site visits and requirements, I currently provide the internship director with connections to qualified preceptors and resources as needed to strengthen the program. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
