I would be honored to serve as a Director-at-Large for our Academy. I will listen to our constituency to help guide our policy direction. I served for five years on the NOBIDAN Executive Committee, including Chair. We boosted volunteer recruitment, professional development, and enjoyed overall membership growth. I have worked with the Academy, DPGs & MIGs on several events and programs, and have forged new community and corporate partnerships. I ask for your support to achieve our goals. |

Chair | National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN) | - | During my service on the NOBIDAN Executive Committee, total membership increased from 304 to 404 between 2010 and 2013. I established new NOBIDAN sponsor relationships and increased total sponsorship commitments by over 30% from $8,000 to $11,500. While serving as Chair, I initiated NOBIDAN's sponsorship of its first two webinars on current topics facing African-Americans and nutrition. I worked in tandem with both the Academy and Kaiser Permanente to produce the webinars that had a combined attendance of almost 200. Finally, I established the NOBIDAN YAM Service Award to honor members that displayed exemplary service to the organization.
Chair Elect | NOBIDAN | - | I worked with the NOBIDAN Executive Committee to ensure a smooth transition. I focused on recruitment of new members and planned for activities to generate member interest. I also appointed committee memberships and reconstituted some inactive NOBIDAN committees. I also worked closely with the Chair and the Academy to develop the NOBIDAN Program of Work for the upcoming year.
Secretary | NOBIDAN | - | During my two-year term as NOBIDAN Secretary, I introduced technology to NOBIDAN communications. We re-launched the NOBIDAN website and established our first on-line membership directory and electronic distribution of our quarterly newsletter. I recruited several members to participate on committees and kept accurate meeting records for the organization.
Awards Committee Chair | Calfornia Dietetic Association | - | I served on the committee for four years from 2007-2010. I attended two CDA Board meetings annually. I coordinated the work of the committee by scheduling and facilitating the required conference calls. Reviewed and scored all of the award applications. Tallied the committee votes and submitted the results to the California Dietetic Association staff.
District Vice President of Public Services | Northern Area Dietetic Association (formerly Golden Empire District) | - | I was active in the original Golden Empire District since moving to Sacramento in 1990. As VP of Public Services, I marketed and publicized Golden Empire District events and activities. I participated in Career Day to educate Sacramento students about careers in Dietetics and Nutrition. Received a Golden Apple Service Award from the organization and President Suzanna Nye. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Campaign Statement
I believe simply being a member of an organization is not enough. One should seek to invest, serve, and guide the organization through leadership. I am excited to bring my energy to the Academy and would be honored to have your continued support.
