Nominating Committee National Leader |

Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
Chair | Biology Department, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs | - | When I became Chair of the Biology Dept at UCCS it was a dysfunctional unit with many of the faculty doing independent work. In the seven years that I was chair we came together to write new curriculum, a new degree and took the enrollment from 300 to over 700 majors. Currently the Biology Department is the largest Department on campus and larger than two colleges. We have a state of the art department with competent faculty and staff that are committed to excellence in teaching and pedagogy.
Faculty President | University of Colorado-Colorado Springs | - | As Faculty President, I represented the faculty and their concerns at all university functions and leadership meetings. During my year as President the faculty adopted a new faculty responsibility statement allowing faculty to diversify their scholarship and teaching. This new statement allows faculty to count clinical research and teaching research towards their progression to tenure and promotion. Additionally, I served on the University System Faculty Council representing the concerns and interest of my campus in Colorado Springs
Chair | Committee for Professional Development | - | As chair of the committee I stressed the importance of increasing the level of education sessions offered at FNCE. I believe that the Academy needs to provide state-of -the-art professional development for successful careers and competency. While serving leadership roles on this committee the sessions at FNCE have improved and RD's rated the education sessions as worthwhile and noted that they are learning new information that is useful.
Spokesperson | The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As a spokesperson my goal was to have the media rely on RD's as their source of nutrition information. I was one of a few RD's that could answer media questions regarding sports nutrition and i had numerous articles and interviews by sports writers which placed stories on the sports pages allowing another avenue of exposure for our profession.
Chair | SCAN-DPG | - | I was the 8th Chair of SCAN and followed great leaders and forward thinkers who set the stage for a successful DPG. As chair, I was able to establish numerous collaborations with other professional groups, like ACSM and the USOC which help SCAN develop credibility with other allied health professionals. The SCAN Symposium became very successful during my role as Chair and we often would do reciprocal sessions with other allied health presenters allowing their researchers to present at SCAN and SCAN's professionals to present at their National Meetings. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Campaign Statement
I am a lifelong learner and try every day to impart my love of learning to everyone I interact with. I take my teaching responsibilities seriously, especially when teaching future Academy members and take great pride when a student masters a difficult nutrition concept.
