President-elect |
|
As President-elect, I will bring a passion for the profession and experience in strategic planning, team building, negotiating, visioning a dynamic future for the profession, and working with members to further develop their leadership skills. My international experiences presenting at meetings and living and traveling abroad provide skills needed as we reach out to our international partners to advance dietetics and nutrition across the globe. My teaching and research background will enable me to provide leadership as we move toward requiring graduate education for entry-level practice and as we implement advanced practice. Through my participation on the AND Board of Directors, the House Leadership Team and on multiple AND committees and councils, I have demonstrated that I will seek member input and I will listen to member concerns as we work together to move our profession forward. |

Speaker of the House of Delegates | AND | - | As Speaker of the House of Delegates, I provided leadership to bring professional mega issues to the delegates. During my term as speaker the two mega issues we discussed were Nutrition Services Payment and Delivery and Engaging Members in Research. Outcomes from these discussions will have long-term positive impacts for the profession.
Member, Board of Directors | AND | - | As a member of the Academy Board of Directors, I have contributed as a team member to continuous updates of the strategic plan and prioritizing and making budget decisions. I obtained member input and I have responded to member questions. I represented the board as a speaker on several occasions. I served as a board liaison to the Council on Research, the Evidence Based Practice Committee, and the Honors Committee. By serving on the Board of Directors I am able to see a broad vision for the profession.
Member, Council on Research | AND | - | As board liaison to the newly formed Council on Research, I have been able to interact with other members of the council to move our AND research agenda forward. I am serving on a subcommittee that is writing our first scientific integrity policy statement. This is groundbreaking for the Academy and helps demonstrate to the public that we are a science-based organization.
Professional Issues Delegate for Research | AND House of Delegates | - | As a Professional Issues Delegate for Research, I provided leadership in the House of Delegates by serving as a table facilitator and as a mentor to new delegates. As table facilitator I guided discussion of mega issues and made sure all members at the table had an opportunity to speak and share their ideas and comments. At the same time I kept the discussion on track and produced the needed outcomes in the time allotted.
Member and Chair, Nutrition Care Process and Terminology Committee | AND | - | As a member and chair of this committee, I provided leadership for development of the first draft of the standardized language. During the year I served as chair we developed language for the last step of the nutrition care process. This was an exciting process and it required that all members of the committee approach the project with an open mind and a willingness to take risks. I provided the encouragement and support to help make this happen. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
