Member | Nominating Committee | - | The future of the Association is guided by its leaders and being part of the nominating committee was a welcome position. As a member of this committee, I was able to research and help decide members for the elected offices. Truly, amazed at the many talents and accomplishments of our members, I found myself in a position where I could help determine the leaders of the Association and thereby assist in the fulfillment of the Academy's mission and vision.
Chair, Charter Member | Diversity Committee | - | It started as an Affirmative Action Committee. The Academy president appointed me to this committee in 1989 (charter member) until 1994; then again in 1999 until I became chair in 2003-2004. The group changed from being the Affirmative to the Diversity Committee. Involved with the needs of the diverse members, including international, as well as issues related to diversity, I helped in bringing these to the attention of the members. Proud to be part of a committee with a modest beginning to one that now provides funding and scholarships. The Diversity Committee remains strong and I remain committed to its cause. The present leaders continue to perform in an outstanding manner.
President | Ohio Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (Dietetic Assocaition) | - | My ascendancy to the position as the president of the Ohio affiliate dietetic association was through my work as chair and/or member of various committees such as legislation, program, public relations, membership, etc. I was the first minority elected to this leadership position and during my presidency, the Ohio Dietitian Licensure Law, one of the nation's strongest, was signed into law. To energize, mobilize, and gain support for the licensure bill, I went to the members in their hometowns. I visited all the districts in Ohio and met members, rallying them to the cause. Members came through and in 1987, we had our law that protects the public and promotes our members. The 25th anniversary (2012) was attended by the oriinal and present legislative committees. As president, we had our annual convention and board meetings. An assigned day for legislative activities included visits to the Ohio Congress. Such meetings and activities continue to this day. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
