Treasurer | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (ADA) | - | As Treasurer, I was able to work with the Board, Finance Committee, HOD and Academy staff to stabilize the financial position of the association during a time of severe financial turmoil. The association had lost money for several years in a row due to poor performance of investments and lack of dues and non-dues revenue sources. All aspects of the association's finances and financial processes were reviewed and modified. The Finance Committee made tough policy decisions that set the association on the path to financial stability. We were able to work with staff to create funding for important programs and intiatives such as Food and Nutrition magazine and the Leadership Development Institute. In surveys each year, members rate Food and Nutrition magazine as the best communications platform in the Academy. The Leadership Development Institute has allowed member leaders to develop their skills and increase the quality and quantity of member leaders within the association. Each year of my term as Treasurer I submitted a balanced budget and ended each year with a surplus. |
|
President | Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (TDA),Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics - BOD | - | As President, I was responsible for all aspects of TDA operations. I had a significant impact on setting goals and providing resources to the Public Policy Panel for the Texas legislative session that occured during my term. I worked with Public Policy Director to select new, additional lobbyist for the session. During the session, I worked with lobbyist to modify the legislation proposed to address weaknesses from previous legislation. I proposed the FNCE theme to highlight food in dietetics practice, recommended the use of a cooking demonstration stage and an educational tract to showcase dietitians and chefs that focus their practice around outstanding healthy food. |

Chair - Organizational Assessment Task Force | Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (TDA) | - | The Organizational Assessment Task Force was convened by the TDA President to evaluate all positions on the Board of Directors, make recommendations as to the size of the Board and how it should function. As Chair, I was responsible to appoint members, establish an evaluation process to determine the best size and configuration of the future Board of Directors, convice the Board of the need for change and craft motions to accomplish the changes. As a result, the TDA Board of Directors was downsized from over 50 voting members to 9. The changes have made the business of running TDA much more efficient for volunteer leaders and contracted association management. |

Affiliate Delegate | Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | I have been part of the House since it transitioned to the knowledge based strategic management decision making process. I have been able to be part of the improvement in the effectiveness of the House as one of the governing bodies of the association. I have been a Table Facilitator and a table Scribe/Recorder in multiple House meetings. I was selected to participate on the HOD Goals Work Group - a small group of delegates to work with House Leadership Team to define the draft goals from House Leadership for the 2011-12 year. | |
Member Value Committee - Chair 2012-13 | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics - BOD | - | As Chair of the Member Value Committee, I led the effort of committee members to complete the plan of work. The plan of work included selection of Affiliate Speaker Grant Award recipients, review of the Associate Member category for the Board, and help develop and improve the eMentoring program. The committee facilitates Affiliate grassroots recruitment and retention of members which has helped the Academy reach record membership numbers. In partnership with Honors Committee, the committee reviewed and made recommendations for a new Fellow honors program that will be presented to the Board for approval. |
