We are using a new web based technology, Wiggio, which has required that I learn how to use it & be able to teach new leaders how to navigate. I created an organizational chart for the DPG, including elected positions, appointed positions and work groups. | |
Regional Education Co-Chair | Healthy Food Alliance of South East Minnesota | - | This organization formed originally as a food policy committee for the SE MN region of 11 counties, however after completing strategic planning we found that we needed to learn more about our region's food system in order to be more confident in development of public policy initiatives. To meet this goal of education, I am working with a co-chair to hold educational opportunities across the region every other month. During the meeting, 2-3 persons will provide an overview of how they see their work to be a critical component of the region's current food system and how they envision making our food system healthier. Speakers have included farmers, general manager of food coop, extension & public health employees, corporate convenience store RD, food bank purchaser and farmer's market manager. | |
Ambassador for Speaker Bureau Grant Program | Hunger and Environmental Dietetic Practice Group | - | In 2009, the HEN DPG Executive Committee budgeted funds to be utilized by HEN members to cover speaker costs when presenting to dietetic audience on topics supporting the HEN mission/values. As the first Ambassador for the program, I developed the policy and procedure for granting these funds as well as an application form that speaker's could use to solicit funding. For providing funds, we asked the speakers to provide a summary of their session and audience. I collected the information each spring & provided a newsletter article to build awareness of speakers, sessions and the grant program. | |
President | Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | Strategic planning about board structure was a focus of my year as President. I helped facilitate board discussions about elected & appointed positions. During this time, the idea of combining the secretary and treasurer into one position began to form. This change was successfully implemented in 2012. I also worked with the leaders of our Public Policy Committee to mentor new leaders within the committee to build a succession plan before burnout. |

Combine the work ethic from my Farmer Dad, the logical brain from my Accountant Mom & a passion for healthy, nutritious food for all- I am driven to Dig into issues that face our profession now & the future, Plant sensible ideas to achieve the desired outcomes & Grow strong leaders thru mentoring
