Director at Large | AND | - | I view the profession through a business lens. Private practice has taught me to be flexible, and decisive to stay competitive and successful. These skills provided the BOD and the Academy new insight into the business of nutrition.
AND-PAC | AND | - | As chairperson of ANDPAC during the reorganization of the DC office, I was instrumental in bringing about positive changes. The results were better interactions between AND PAC and legislators, with more efficient control of contributions. I took part in the development of, and interviewing for, two new VP positions. We now have a positive network yielding dynamic results.
President | Florida AND | - | During my term, the Board, Executive Director and I made difficult but strategic decisions and cut expenses by 40%. My presidency focused on fiscal responsibility, celebrating our membership, recruiting new members and branding the RD in Florida. My mission was to engage and inspire. We culminated my year with an extremely successful annual symposium boasting a record number of exhibitors and the largest attendance in over 6 years.
Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council | State of Florida-Board of Medicine/Medical Quality Assurance | - | In 1996, the FL Board of Medicine appointed me to serve on the Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council. I was elected Chair of the Council in 1999 & continued in that capacity until 2005 after serving the maximum number of terms. Under my leadership, two successful campaigns to combat unlicensed nutrition activity while protecting the citizens of Florida were conducted. #1. Billboard campaign, entitled “Are you losing more than weight?”. These billboards are still seen as part of Florida’s public service announcements and highlight the hazards of weight loss guidance by unqualified individuals. #2. Letters were sent to gyms throughout Florida advising gym owners on the necessary qualifications of those providing nutrition counseling and the fines for unlicensed activity. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
