Commissioner | Commision on Dietetic Registration | - | It is an honor to serve on CDR. I am proud to promote the integrity of our credential and how CDR is meeting its goal of public protection because of the work of the CDR leaders and staff. I co-chair the interdisciplinary specialty credential task force and participate in practice audit, item writing and appeals panel committee. I am especially proud about initiating the upcoming Interdisciplinary Board Certification as a Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM).
Chair | Diabetes Care and Education DPG | - | DCE is a dynamic DPG with a history of developing leaders in the diabetes space. As chair, I promoted outcomes research by establishing a Research position on the board, focused on membership recruitment and retention through targeted membership drives, enhanced DCE visibility with an exhibit booth at AADE and scheduled strategic communications with AND leadership with a headquarters visit.
Chair | Weight Management DPG | - | I am proud to be the co-founder of the WM DPG. During the start-up, I was fortunate to be surrounded with leaders and staff who provided their valuable advice and sweat equity. The Founding Members contributed their money to fund our beginning operations to recruit members. Leading the first strategic plan provided a roadmap to prioritize our activities to support our mission and vision.
Treasurer | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | My term was one of transition due to a key staff vacancy in the finance area. As treasurer, I participated in the recruitment and hiring of the current Vice President of Finance and Administration. As chair of the finance committee, I provided oversight of the budget process by linking activities to the strategic plan. Policies regarding the review process were updated.
Director-at-Large | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As Director-at-Large, I represented the interest of all members to move our organization strategically and globally. Having a broad base knowledge and participation of most organized units proved to be essential. As a Director-at-Large, I participated in the recruitment of key staff positions, strategic planning and the honors committee. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Over 90,000 participants have completed CDR’s Adult Weight Management Certificate of Training. As faculty, I am impressed with the RDs innovative obesity treatment strategies. Three years ago, the WM & DCE petitioned the CFP to develop a Board Certified Specialist in Obesity & Weight Management (CSOWM). They recommended that the credential become an Interdisciplinary one. The CSOWM will bring increased recognition & competency to the obesity space & meet the CDR’s mission to protect the public.
