ACEND Practitioner Representative, Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) |
|
I love nutrition and dietetics and have volunteered as a preceptor for dietetic technician students at Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio. I am a team-player with the ability to empower others to embrace change that advances themselves as well as the Academy. I have an ongoing desire to learn and share what is learned to all who will listen. I respect the opinions of others even when I do not agree. I am creative, innovative and am always looking for "the solution" to a problem. |

Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
Nominating Committee | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | While serving on the nominating committee, I was able to present reasons why DTRs should be included in all discussions or on panels that involved decisions about their future. As a Black dietetic professional, I was able to share cultural differences that helped to strengthen diversity awareness. I feel I have a diplomatic leadership style and feel everyone should be involved or made aware of any decision that affects them.
At-Large DTR House of Delegate | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As the At-Large DTR House of Delegate Representative, I was vocal in sharing fellow DTRs concerns on eliminating the ability to complete assessments because of the revised Standards of Professional Practice and Scope of Practice. Many fellow members of the House of Delegates had never worked with a DTR. I was able to share my skill-set, which enlightened some of those in opposition.
Chair of Kick-Off | African American Wellness Walk Committee | - | The African American Wellness Walk is a huge event in Dayton, Ohio. As chair of the Kick-Off, I was responsible for planning the agenda, raising money to help meet financial costs, acquiring entertainment, logistics and packaging fresh fruit and water. I believe in networking and helping others in a time of need. By doing so, I am able to count on community members and leaders to help me during this citywide event.
Commissioner | Commission on Dietetic Registration | - | As the dietetic technician, registered representative, I recommended a change in policy for members who may have forgotten or neglected to pay their maintenance fee. I felt it would be more appropriate to attach a financial penalty first, before revoking a person's credential.
SOP / SOPP Workgroup Member | Ohio Board of Dietetic | - | I assisted with the revision of the Administrative codes regulating the Standards of Practice for dietitians in the state of Ohio. This revision reflected the 2008 American Dietetic Association's Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Practice for the RD/DTR. I recommended Nutrition Associates (those with a four year degree in nutrition, working under the the supervision of a dietitian) be required to obtain 50 CEU's just as DTRs. |
