HOD At-Large Delegate: Early Practitioner |
|
1. I co-chair a multi-disciplinary neonatal nutrition committee and work with a diverse group to optimize our nutritional care of critically ill infants. 2. I worked with a multi-disciplinary team to launch a breast milk scanning program in our NICU milk preparation space. This required excellent communication skills with feedback being given back and forth. 3. I have advocated to prove my worth as a nutrition expert within the NICU unit level, but also within the company that I work for. |

Specialist in Pediatric Critical Care Nutrition Test Creation Committee | Commission on Dietetic Registration | 2018 - 2018 | Applied to the CDR to serve as a committee member to help write test questions and review test questions for the new Pediatric Critical Care Nutrition Test. I worked with ten other pediatric dietitians to write test questions and then review them. These questions are used in the exam bank of questions for candidates as of September 2018.
Nominating Committee Chair | Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2017 - 2018 | I was elected to serve as the Nominating Committee Chair for the state of Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Board. This was a great opportunity to learn more about how the state organization works. I worked to recruit members to be involved and then run for positions on the ballot in 2018. I worked to create the ballot and put together information on the candidates that used for the online ballot.
Nominating Committee | Central Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2018 - 2019 | Currently serving on the Nominating Committee for our local chapter of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I have been an active participant within the local chapter, but it has been a great experience to network with RDNs in the city where I work. I will work with the executive board to create a list of nominees and help to compile information to be shared on the online ballot for the upcoming 2019 elections. One focus for this year is to find ways to engage with more members who are in the age range of 30-45 years old, with families, who are not active members in our local organization. We are working to engage with these target members and expand our active members.
Secretary | Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences Alumni Board | 2016 - 2019 | I was elected to serve as the Secretary for the Alumni Board for the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University. I have been a board member since 2015, but was asked to serve as the Secretary for a 3 year term. I take minutes during our board meetings that are held twice a year. I also attend and take minutes for our Executive Board meeting held annually. I worked to create a system of organizing meeting documents and minutes online for easier reference by all board members. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
As Registered Dietitian Nutritionists we are the nutrition experts. We have the education and specialty training to provide evidence-based nutrition information to our clients, patients and the general public. People need scientific nutrition recommendations, because there is so much misinformation that is circulated via the media. I see the future of Registered Dietitians (clinical and non-clinical) stepping into that role to provide nutrition guidance to the public.
Campaign Statement
I am clinical dietitian, who wants to work with other Registered Dietitian Nutritionists to advocate for our profession to be the experts in helping to prevent diseases and treat illnesses through people's nutritional intake.
