Vice Chair (2018-2019) and Commissioner | Commission on Dietetic Registration | 2016 - 2019 | As a CDR commissioner, I participated in a broad range of committees, including the Advanced Practice Panel, Finance Committee, Appeals Panel, and CDR's Nominating Committee, and I served as a liaison to NDEP and the House of Delegates. I leveraged the insights gained in committee work to influence CDR's strategic planning, funding decisions, and research pursuits. I provided balanced thinking regarding challenging credentialing and appeal issues. These experiences honed my leadership and collaboration skills.
Advanced Practice Panel: Chair (2016), Vice Chair (2017-2020) and Member | Commission on Dietetic Registration | 2014 - 2020 | I am passionate about advanced clinical nutrition practice. I devoted seven years to the creation of the Advanced Practitioner Certification in Clinical Nutrition. Collaborating with a diverse team of experts to lay the groundwork for all phases of the credential, from the practice audit methodology, exam design, item writing, testing, and publication of the first practice audit findings, has been a career highlight.
Nominating Committee | Commission on Dietetic Registration | 2017 - 2019 | CDR implements a rigorous gap analysis to identify practice areas and needs of prospective commissioners to ensure the ballot effectively represents balanced perspectives and requisite skills and experience. I reviewed applications and contributed to slating the ballot. I communicated with those elected and not elected to serve on CDR and oriented new commissioners to committees I worked on. This responsibility required me to have a clear and compassionate communication style.
Dietitian Certifee Director - Board of Directors | National Board of Nutrition Support Certification | 2012 - 2018 | As a board member, I helped define and implement our strategic plan and represent our organization at national meetings. I served as the lead researcher for the "National Board of Nutrition Support Certification Safe Practices Survey"(published in JPEN J Parenter Enteral Nutr 2015). This study demonstrated that CNSC credential holders had more knowledge of evidence-based nutrition support guidelines than non-credential holders.
Writers Mentoring Chair | Dietitians in Nutrition Support Dietetic Practice Group | 2011 - 2020 | I lead the Writer's Mentoring Program, which provides support to eager nutrition and dietetics professionals and students who are looking to develop experience in writing for publication. By pairing aspiring writers with experienced writing mentors, the team collaborates on a manuscript slated for publication in Support Line, the newsletter of the Dietitians in Nutrition Support DPG. |
Diversity is critical to the future of nutrition and dietetics. As we strive to bring diversity into our profession, we must seek a culture that promotes diversity in people, mindsets, and research to address the needs of credentialed practitioners and the populations we serve. Collectively we must use our differences in practice, perspectives, and experience as bridges to our future. We must encourage grassroots efforts to excite and inspire young students from all corners of our country and abroad to join us on this critical mission to address societal food and nutrition challenges.
My leadership experiences, international partnerships, and years as an educator informed my eagerness to represent unique perspectives and built my extensive network of professional relationships that will help us create a diverse ballot.
