Chair | Dietitians in Nutrition Support DPG | 2019 - 2020 | As chair of DNS DPG, I have had the opportunity to work with multidisciplinary nutrition support clinicians across the US. Together, we have collaborated on numerous projects for the benefit of all registered dietitian nutritionists such as a small bowel feeding tube insertion toolkit, nutrition focused physical examination video, career mentoring program, and expansion of specialty networks. I have also had the privilege of working with Academy leaders on budgeting, strategic planning, program development, and initiatives focused on skill building/career advancement.
Treasurer | Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2009 - 2012 | As state treasurer, I worked with current and aspiring registered dietitian nutritionists to create an operational budget and manage finances to ensure member needs were met. During the general same time span, I also served as a media spokesperson and marketing/public relations co-chair for the Illinois state affiliate as well as a variety of positions up to and including Capital Area Association of Nutrition and Dietetics president.
Symposium Registration Chair | Illinois Women in Leadership | 2017 - 2019 | As an active member of Illinois Women in Leadership, I have had the pleasure of networking and collaborating with female leaders across a variety of fields including, but not limited to health care. Projects to create continuing education events like the annual symposium, enhance new member orientation, grow career mentoring have taught me that women can succeed in any professional environment if the drive to do so exists.
Abstract Review Committee | American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) | 2013 - 2017 | As a member of the ASPEN Abstract Review Committee, I reviewed abstracts submitted for poster presentation at the annual conference. Proposals were multidisciplinary in nature and covered a variety of topics from basic science to bedside clinical practice. 50+ proposals were reviewed for content, relevance and bias and then discussed in a group setting to determine participation. Award recommendations were also provided. During the event, I had the privilege of serving as a poster monitor and met 1:1 with presenters to further discuss the work being presented. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
As we enter into the second century, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists have the opportunity to serve as change champions in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment. My goal is to position new and seasoned nutrition practitioners to practice at the top of license and/or registration in all specialties related to dietetics.
