HOD At-Large Delegate: Retired |
|
I have had a lot of experience communicating with diverse groups from scientists to small children. All communication requires interactive discussions and for dietitians allowing for diversity of approaches and opinions with good professional conduct. Sorting out the level of issues is essential for consensus, communication with management, and delegation and such as when work priorities change due to budgets and management changes. |

Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
Chair and member Dietetics Practice Based Network | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2015 - 2016 | I was able to develop strong support of research within the membership including enhanced training in research through web based training and a set of symposia at FNCE. Emphasis was on improving research skills for new researchers.
Chair (served 2 terms as past chair) Professional Development | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2009 - 2012 | The major focus of this committee was the approval and development of the educational sessions for FNCE. As a committee, we expanded the number of higher level sessions and improved the inclusion of all areas of practice including social media sessions. I personally developed sessions on food safety and substainability.
Chair and member Position Committee | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2005 - 2007 | At the time I was chair of the positions committee, we were in a transition to increasing the number of positions based of the EAL resulting in improved the quality of the positions, but had a financial and time impact of the final publications. We made sustainable changes to the administration of this committee including size and length of service. My goal was to provide benefits to the membership and this included listening to comments from the members about controversial issues.
Delegate for Porfessional Issues | HOD Academy of Nutirtion and Dietetics | 2005 - 2008 | Being a member HOD provided an opportunity to represent the DPGs that included research in their approach to practice. The house sessions focused on how best to include science-based practice in the major issues facing the organization such as food sustainability issues to educational requirements for accreditation. The issues debated were exceptional for objectively and clearly in the best interest of the membership.
member of honors committe | Academy of Nutrition and Deitetics | 2017 - 2019 | My goal is to assure that honors were bestowed on those with strong academy and research accomplishments |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Our well-educated members must have increases in reimbursement due to expanding research-based practice. The intersection of data-based practice with basic and applied research provides prospects for excellent client/patient care, education of the public, and practice. Social media and other digital platforms provide the members with inexpensive educational programing. The academy’s must provide member benefits to all members and listen to their concerns.
Campaign Statement
As a scientist, educator, and academy member, I will emphasize the following: informatics, nutrigenetics, microflora research, social media, international participation, research, education, and reimbursements.
