Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
Chair, Past Chair, Chair Elect | Research Dietetics Practice Group | 2015 - 2019 | I was the Chair-elect, Chair, and Past- Chair (2 years) of the Research DPG (RDPG). During my tenure, the RDPG grew in several different ways, including an increase in 1) membership and 2) the number of committees (ie Webinar Committee). Also, several existing committees expanded (Awards committee). Moreover, the RDPG was able to provide consistent funding through a grant program, providing members an opportunity to seek research funding.
SCAN Spring Symposium Chair | Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition Dietetics Practice Group | 2017 - 2019 | I was Chair of the annual 2019 SCAN Symposium focusing on Wellness. I directed and supported a team of RDNs to select a symposium theme, content, speakers, and schedule. Our team was responsible for evaluating and selecting member-proposed educational and poster sessions and inviting a number of well-known and reputable speakers.
Fundraising Chair | Research Dietetics Practice Group | 2017 - 2021 | I have been the Fundraising Chair for the RDPG for the past three years. During my tenure, I have identified several new funding sources and maintained continuous sponsorship for the group's award program. From this experience, I have learned to balance industry's educational needs with that of the RDPG.
Symposium Chair | Research Dietetics Practice Group | 2017 - 2019 | I organized two evidenced-based symposia for the RDPG. Both were presented prior to FNCE and focused on the metabolic and physiological impact of the gut microbiome. I developed the program theme and learning objectives, identified and recruited speakers, obtained CE, and secured sponsorship for both symposia.
Secretary | Research Dietetic Practice Group | 2013 - 2015 | I was Secretary of the RDPG. I developed a new platform for reporting the monthly Executive Committee meetings. In addition, I modernized the RDPG eblast to include visuals and working links and transitioned the eblast from a sporadic mailing to a regular, monthly communication. |
I see limitless opportunities for our profession. More people appreciate nutrition as an essential part of their health and critical to our planet's sustainability and feeding future generations. With this recognition comes action and RDNs are the leaders. Credentialing is how we assure the public that our members meet specific qualifications, and we, the organization, set those standards. Through continuing education, we assure that those standards are always maintained. It is essential that the public understands they can trust us for reliable, evidence-based nutrition information.
I believe CDR is essential for advancing our profession within healthcare, industry, government, and the general public. If elected, I would apply my Academy experience and my knowledge as an educator and scientist to support CDR's mission.
