Leadership Experience
| Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: |
| Director, Board of Directors and House of Delegates/House Leadership Team | American Dietetic Association | - | Participated as a member of a team to develop and lead mega issue dialogue sessions during the House of Delegates meetings, participated as a team member in monthly conference calls, participated in regularly scheduled Board of Directors meetings, provided liason to Diversity Committee from the Board of Directors. |
| Professional Issues Delegate/Research | American Dietetic Association | - | Served as table facilitator for HOD mega issues discussions and contributed to outcomes of these discussions. Provided leadership as Chair of the Public Health/Community Nutrition Changing American Family Workgroup, facilitated discussions and contributed to outcomes of these discussions. A need was established for a resource directory for the membership to identify resources already available. This was the first time the PID's coordinated with DPG's to discuss an HOD issue. I also served two years as a mentor for a new member of HOD. |
| Member and Chair, Nutrition Care Process/Standardized Language Committee | American Dietetic Association | - | During my term on this committee we developed the language for three of the four steps of the NCP. Each year on the committee we published the NCP/SL book which provided the current Standardized Language to the membership. My last year, when I served as Chair, we published the IDNT, 2nd edition. This edition was the first one to include the complete Standardized Language, i.e. language for each step of the NCP. I also spoke at a FNCE workshop and several DEP meetings on the topic of the NCP/SL. Also, during my term on the committee, the ADA/NCP website was completely revised to make it more user friendly for both educators and practitioners. A set of instructional NCP web modules was developed and posted to the website for both educators and practitioners. We were also successful in getting a hotlink to the NCP webpage from the eatright.org home page. |
| Member, Evidence Based Practice Committee | American Dietetic Association | - | I served as a liason from the NCP/SL Committee to this committee. I participted as a member of a subcommittee that developed guidelines for nominations and appointment to the Evidence Analysis Workgroups. We also developed procedures for priortizing evidence analysis projects. |
| Chair, Nutrition Education Research Interest Section | American Society for Nutrition | - | I wrote a symposium proposal that was accepted for presentation at the national Experimental Biology Meetings. I organized the symposium and invited speakers. I chaired or co-chaired two mini symposiums on nutrition education and behavior. I conducted the national business meeting, coordinated graduate student awards, and obtained funding for the graduate student awards. During my term Nutrition Education Research became a more recognized and stronger Research Interest Section within the American Society of Nutrition. In my leadership role in ASN I also encouraged continuation and ADA sponsorship of the networking session for RD's at the Experimental Biology Meetings. This has now become an important annual event for RD researchers and those involved in the translation of research for practitioners and consumers.
