President-elect |
|
I have four years of previous experience serving on the Board of Directors, three years serving on the House Leadership Team and one year serving as Speaker of the House of Delegates. During my term on the Board we dealt with several issues in which there were strong differences of opinion among Board members and among our AND members. I listened and responded to members and to colleagues on the Board. I maintained communication with members and sought understanding on these difficult issues so that mutually acceptable solutions could be reached. As a member of the House Leadership Team and Speaker of the House of Delegates I provided leadership and inspiration to our HLT and to Delegates as we conducted dialogues on topics such as Nutrition Services Delivery and Payment and Developing a Research Culture within the Academy. Outcomes of these dialogues have resulted in strategic planning and direction for the future success of the Academy. |

Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
Board of Directors | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As a member of the Board of Directors I contributed as a team member to continuous updates to the AND Strategic Plan and I provided input into discussion and prioritizing for budget planning. Strategic communications with members are critical and as a team member I contributed to discussions about how to connect with members and provide information in an efficient and effective manner. To increase understanding between the Board and members I gave update presentations at area meetings.
Speaker of the House of Delegates | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As Speaker of the House of Delegates I provided leadership and facilitation for dialogues on Nutrition Services Payment and Delivery and on Developing a Research Culture within AND. Outcomes from these two dialogues have been incorporated into strategic and budget planning. As a member of the House Leadership Team I provided mentoring for new members of the team and I encouraged open communication and maintenance of a productive and calm work environment.
Council on Research | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | As a member of the Council on Research during the initial year of the Council, I provided leadership as an experienced researcher and as a member of the scientific integrity subcommittee. The publication of the AND scientific integrity principles by our subcommittee came at a strategic time in the life of the Academy. These principles provide much needed direction for members to feel comfortable that the Academy is not compromising our scientific integrity.
Nutrition Care Process Terminology Committee | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | - | During my three-year term on this committee we developed the terminology for our nutrition care process. During my third year as chair of the committee we developed the terms for the last step of the NCP. For the first time our practitioners had terminology to use in documenting their work. This has had a significant impact on the profession. These terms are now incorporated into electronic health records and into national data bases that can be used to facilitate reimbursement. The outcomes of this committee have had an international impact as the NCPT has been translated into several different languages and is being used internationally.
Professional Issues Delegate | AND House of Delegates | - | During my three-year term as Professional Issues Delegate for Research I became aware of how the Academy is organized and governed. As a Delegate, I submitted proposals for several mega issues that were subsequently discussed by the House. I provided leadership as a table facilitator and kept the dialogue moving to produce the needed outcomes. This experience allowed me to see the importance of member input into our governing process. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
It is exciting to see the many expanding opportunities and increased recognition for RDN’s and NDTR’s within our communities, throughout our healthcare system, and internationally. Technology is making it possible for us to connect with consumers, with members of the healthcare team, and with international colleagues. Increasing recognition of the role of food and nutrition in health, wellness, and disease prevention assures our place at the table.
Campaign Statement
As a visionary leader I commit to increasing recognition and visibility for our members. My passion for safeguarding professional integrity and engaging members in strategic communications assures I will hear your voice.
