House of Delegates (HOD) Speaker-elect |
|
I have served in leadership and management positions within dietetics for over 20 years. Organizational skills is a top strength. Within my work positions, others on the management team look to me for strategic problem solving - especially in day to day "crisis" occurrences. If there is a guest concern, I can quickly analyze the concern and find a viable solution. When serving as table facilitator for HOD meetings, my primary goal was to ensure all members of the group had opportunity to voice their ideas or concerns and that these comments be captured for the Academy to review. As a supervisor of RDNs and DTRs, I strive to communicate openly with my staff about positive feedback, issues/concerns and upcoming projects. We have weekly meetings and I maintain an "open door" policy which my staff feel comfortable using. |

Secretary | HEN DPG | - | As HEN Secretary, I strove to ensure meeting agendas and minutes were available in a timely manner. Use of a color coded agenda was implemented during my tenure. I was also involved in the Leadership strategic planning retreat - developing the plan and goals for the next 3-5 years.
Affiliate Delegate | MN - MAND | - | As delegate, I continuously worked to find ways to communicate AND news as well as HOD topics with the membership. I used technology such as our ezine, but also valued individual communication via email or phone with key stakeholders to gather their input. I also served on the MN Executive Board, providing leadership within the board.
Affiliate President | MN-MAND | - | As affiliate president, two key projects during my tenure were a review/update of the organization's strategic plan (including a restructure of the organization positions) and assisting with the mentoring of new leaders for our Public Policy committee. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Change is our future! As members of AND, we have the opportunity to lead the nation in finding ways to improve the health of our citizens though food and nutrition. As we strive to meet this goal, we are going to continually encounter the need to change. We must be willing to have the difficult conversations & make decisions about our educational pathway, corporate sponsorship, nutrition research, cultural competence & other topics yet to come.
