member-Item Writing Workshops | CDR | - | Since 2006 I have been selected as a participant to work in different panels, committees and work groups related to item writing process for the CDR Exam. I have participated in item review workshops, dietetic practice audit, specification development workshop and the RD exam items review. During those occasions I have promoted the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' mission and vision, particularly diversity and inclusiveness. My professional interest as a professor in Puerto Rico is to foster knowledge and skills needed to approve the RD certification exam. I am always willing to volunteer and work towards that goal. As a local leader I am constantly learning, sharing and keeping abreast of scientific and professional developments. Also I have been always willing to answer any and all questions related to this procedure, or redirect when needed. I authored several short articles distributed in professional newsletters to encourage nutritional professionals to take the exam. Also have given conferences in our local professionals convention related to this topic. |

member - Strategic Planning Committee | College of Nutritionists and Dietitians of Puerto Rico | - | At this point in time the College of Nutritionists and Dietitians of Puerto Rico is re-examining its vision and mission. The committee is in the process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. To do this, the President appointed several members that had the experience, expertise and wiliness to provide recommendations and suggestions and more so willing to take the challenge. I have taken the challenge and provide inside as to how the College will grow if nutrition issues pursued outside our geographical boundaries can be addressed. Moreover I have taken the opportunities to promote the RD/RDN certification in Puerto Rico. |

volunteer - Co Chairperson/Chairperson Nutrition and Physical Activity Committee | Cancer Control Coalition of Puerto Rico | - | Puerto Rico now has a comprehensive cancer control plan that serves as a foundation to establish the state public policy in cancer control. The Cancer Control Coalition has been in charge of developing the Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan since 2007. In the Coalition Control Plan 2014-19, Nutrition and Physical Activity component is one of the key components. I started volunteering as co-chairperson, later as the chairperson of the Nutrition and Physical Activity Committee. In this role, I have been responsible of addressing nutritional concerns also physical activity issues in the cancer spectrum. |
