Leadership Experience
| Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: |
| Chair-Elect/Chair/Past Chair | Dietitians in Business & Communications DPG | - | Led Executive Committee to re-focus activities and outreach to increase relevance to members due to the changing dynamic of the business and communications marketplace. Accomplished this through recruitment of new DBC leaders who offered a more diverse outlook and variety of background and experience ? included appointment of new Education Team Leader, dynamic FNCE event planner, and a re-structure of the Communications Team (included re-vamp of web design and management, as well as search for a new electronic newsletter editor). Led EC to expand sponsorship recruitment beyond our traditional approach by reaching out to and securing new sponsorship from less traditional organizations, accomplished in part by highlighting the diversity and leadership strengths of DBC members. |
| Convention Chair | Washington State Dietetic Association | - | Produced successful 2011 conference attended by over 200 nutrition professionals, staying within spending and revenue budget with a healthy dose of sponsors for both exhibits and sponsorship of speakers and programs. Two pre-conference sessions were offered - one on pediatrics, in line with the conferece theme "Nutrition for Life!", and the other an agricultural tour, which highlighted the conference location in the agiculture-rich South Central Washington town of Yakima. Record-breaking fund raising activities to support WSDA Licensure efforts. |
| Treasurer | Dietitians in Business & Communications DPG | - | Offered a renewed energy and a more science-based perspective to Executive Committee as a new leader within DBC (coming from a science/clinical-based industry position). Supported financial goals of DBC, and provided support with sponsorship recruitment and retainment. In 2nd year, helped transition the most tactical duties of the Treasurer position over to DBC?s newly hired Administrative Management company, An Apple A Day, allowing an increase in the strategic role of the Treasure position as a member of the EC. |
| Pres-Elect/President/Past-President | Colorado Dietetic Association | - | As President, due to a reduced sponsorship support, as well as declining project revenue, I was forced make some tough decisions as to how to drastically scale back spending and develop a new direction for the Association?s outreach and strategic plan. This included development of a new job description and search and selection for the a new Association Administrative Management company. Additionally, recent failed efforts in gaining legislative support for licensure of RD?s resulted in a temporary reprieve from funding a hired lobbyist. As President-Elect, I planned and executed the state convention, which brought in a variety of local and national speakers (involving key industry sponsors), and attracted over 200 participants, supporting a balanced budget for the year. |
| State Government Affairs Team Leader | Colorado Dietetic Association | - | As a member and leader of CDA?s State Government Affairs Team, I was instrumental in efforts to get legislation passed (through an ?anti-regulatory? state legislature) which mandated all state-based insurers to offer coverage for diabetes education and supplies. As Regulatory Chair (1999-2000), led all licensure application efforts, including chief author of 60+ page application as required by the state?s regulatory agency for professional licensing. Licensure efforts also included internal member recruitment for support of professional licensure, and testimonials from members documenting harm or potential of harm to the public. |
