Leadership Experience
| Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
| Chair-Elect, Chair | Dietetic Technicians In Practice | - | I led the DTP DPG during a challenging year that started with low membership and resignations of EC members. I covered positions (Secretary, Newsletter, Nominating Committee) and with the help of other EC members, the DPG was saved from probationary status. By encouraging DPG members and EC members, we were able to elect a full EC and maintain membership with less than 1/2% decrease from 2010 membership year to current. I also presented our DTP DPG Spotlight Session at FNCE 2010 in Boston. The session evaluation returns indicated that this was one of the most successful sessions at FNCE 2010. | |
| Treasurer | Dietetic Technician in Practice | - | As Treasurer, through careful watch of the budget, our DPG was able to utilize reserves in the year 2011. I also assumed the responsibility as interim Newsletter Editor. In 2009, our DPG Chair-Elect was unable to continue. While still serving as Treasurer, I submitted our DTP DPG Spotlight Session and completed the 2010 Plan of Work. In the absence of a Chair-Elect, I agreed to resign from Treasurer and accept the nomination from the EC and her responsibilities. | |
| National Nutrition Month Chair / Hunger Network Liason / Public Education Chair | Cleveland Dietetic Association | - | I was appointed to this position in 2007 and have been re-appointed every year since. I organized supermarket healthy eating demonstrations every March, to provide the public with options. I also use this venue to acquaint our city with the Cleveland Dietetic Association (CDA). In 2009, 2010 & 2011, on behalf of the CDA, I accepted proclamations from the Mayor declaring March as National Nutrition Month in Cleveland. As the Hunger Network Liason, I work as the CDA representative with our local agency that manages food pantries and hot meal sites in the city of Cleveland. I organize CDA member and activities that assist in fund raising, volunteerism, etc. for the Hunger Network. This appointed position has since evolved to Public Education Chair, and includes networking with community agencies and government officials to promote healthy eating to the citizens of Cleveland. | |
| Dieetic Technicians in Practice Committee | Cleveland Dietetic Association | - | Created and organized two projects with the assistance of the DTR and RD members of the Cleveland Dietetic Association. One project was named "The Produce Partnership" Program, which collected produce donations from CDA members and local supermarkets to assist two food panties in the city, provide fresh produce to pantry consumers. The other program, named the "The Promotion Partnership" created a relationship with a local supermarket, to assist them with providing nutrition tips to customers. The success of both of these programs led to improving the quality of life for the challenged population of the city. This also increased visibility for CDA. In recognition for the work, I was awarded the 2007 ADA Dietetic Technician of the Year Award - Ohio. | |
| Ministry Assistant / Leader | Mount Zion Fellowship Church | - | I started in the position as an assistant to one of our ruling Elders. I assist him in the record keeping of 35 ministries within the church. Some of my other projects included creating a 75 page booklet to commemorate the church's 25th anniversary. I was also assigned to assist with editing our church website. Utilizing these gifts have lead to my appointment, by the pastor over the street-witnessing ministry to share God's love with others in the community. I considered myself very blessed to be able to serve God in this manner. |
Personal and Campaign Statements
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
Campaign Statement
I still hold true to my motto from my year as DTP DPG Chair - Make a Difference. I believe that everyone needs to feel valued, and that "act of kindness", should be "paid forward". When we practice that, our clients and customers benefit. That is reward in itself.
