 1. I have served on the Board and several AND committees since 2002, as well as membership in NOBIDAN. This has provided varied networking opportunities. 2. Assisted in the creation of the current Academy strategic plan. As Community Health Director, I also lead strategic planning for a large health department in Florida. 3. As lead for community health assessment for Hillsborough County, I utilized strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to engage diverse community partners and manage collaborations. 4. Board Member Hillsborough County, Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Transportation Board 2013 - 2023 Promoted understanding of transportation as a social determinant of health. Created policy to address County transportation challenges and provided direction for the use of federal and state funding.
Committee Member Healthy Start, Planning and Development Committee - 2023 Worked with coalition partners to assess needs and ensure funding and programs to reduce poor birth outcomes for black infants in Hillsborough County.
Site Reviewer Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) 2014 - 2019 Visited sites nationally as assigned to complete reviews to ensure the health department self-study was consistent with national standards.

Personal and Campaign Statements

What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?

I have been a member of the Academy for several years, and I have participated in many committees, and recently on the Board. Over the years, the world has changed, and our association has changed. Change is a constant, and not something we should fear. But I do believe that it should not occur in a haphazard and chaotic manner. I also believe that the agents of change need to be guided by good information or data, sterling principles, and the best motives to achieve positive outcomes that benefit the Academy.

Campaign Statement

According to Richard Teerlink, “As a leader … your principal job is to create an operating environment where others can do great things.” With a focus on trust, accountability, and sustainability, my efforts will be to promote investments of the Academy's resources that truly benefit our members. Responsible financial stewardship empowers members and leaders to achieve great things.
