1. I have served on four boards. In managing change, I am inclusive, collegial, courageous, and open to diverse perspectives. 2. The recommendations of the initial Education Task Force in 2004 were controversial. Understanding the perspective of the public health RDN, I sought an invitation to present at a WIC leadership national meeting. My presentation framed the recommendations to emphasize the big picture. 3. I use SWOT and similar models to identify needs, opportunities, and strategic solutions. 4. Many Americans don’t trust science. This has interesting implications, but not all bad. It is an opportunity to explore our “blind spot”. The belief that if we as professionals make it clear what science says, then people will listen. Now we know that a few words on TikTok can drown out years of credible scientific investigation. We must continue to stand on science, but we must also enhance our communication repertoire to communicate a narrative that is appealing to a variety of audiences and become very efficient at using the growing venues, formats, and platforms for communication.
Future challenges will require passion, commitment, and a willingness to reinvent ourselves professionally when necessary. That describes who I am and what I will bring to the position if I am elected.
