Leadership Experience
| Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: |
| Delegate | Food & Culinary Professionals DPG | 2019 - 2025 | I showed up prepared to discuss critical issues and engage in thoughtful, informed dialogue with other members of the House of Delegates. I communicated frequently with constituents through various FCP publications. I also encouraged one-on-one conversations by phone or Zoom with FCP members to integrate diverse viewpoints into my discussions and deliberations. |
| President-Elect / President / Immediate Past President | California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2015 - 2018 | During my president-elect year, I was instrumental in moving California from a "Who do we know who can present?" model for annual conference planning to an RFP process. As president I worked diligently to understand and evaluate how our affiliate managed our budgets, and after I concluded my three-year term, I served as an appointed member of a Finance Task Force that worked for 8 months to evaluate all income, expenses, and member benefits. The task force report resulted in major changes to spending on salaries, benefits, and operating expenses. |
| President | Les Dames d'Escoffier International, Sacramento Chapter | 2024 - 2025 | I served as chapter president during the chapter's 10th anniversary. I spearheaded the production of a major 10-year report on the accomplishments of our chapter related to philanthropic work in our community with women working in food, agriculture, and hospitality. |
| Treasurer | Les Dames D'Escoffier International, Sacramento Chapter | 2022 - 2024 | When I took over as treasurer of the chapter, budgets and bookkeeping were done in Excel and we didn't have to file taxes due to our non-profit status and low income. As the chapter grew quickly, I worked to hired a professional bookkeeper who could use QuickBooks Online to create all documents required for a CPA to prepare our taxes, created an RFP for a CPA, and hired the CPA to prepare our taxes thereby protecting our non-profit status and our financial future. |
Personal and Campaign Statements
Registered dietitians are the most qualified, professionally trained food and nutrition professionals. No matter where we work, people are interested in what we know, and how we can help them make more informed decisions. Research shows that younger consumers (Gen Z and Gen Alpha) are intensely interested in how their food choices impact their health. We RDNs and NDTRs need to embrace our expertise and the opportunities that present themselves every day, proudly showcasing our credentials, celebrating science, and sharing our expertise.
I grew up on a farm where hard work predicted success. My farmer’s daughter work ethic has motivated me to give as much to volunteer activities as I do to paid opportunities. If elected, I will devote time and energy to ensuring the House of Delegates does work that has impact for our profession as well as the people and communities we serve.
