Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) Outreach Committee | AND | 2021 - 2022 | Currently, I am on the NDEP Outreach Committee using my leadership and visionary skills to provide support to nutrition and dietetic educators. These educators face unique challenges that are currently existing in the education and training of our nutrition and dietetic students, who are the future of our profession. The committee’s role is to help facilitate discussion and potential solutions among NDEP members to these challenges. Our first meeting yielded close to 125 members.
HOD Evolution Design Committee | AND HOD | 2018 - 2019 | When I was in the HOD, I was recruited to participate on the HOD Evolution Design Committee. I played a leadership and visionary role in developing a redesign of the House to best use its talents and expertise to strategically, efficiently, and effectively serve Academy members and key stakeholders.
National Media Spokesperson | AND | 2008 - 2016 | As an AND National Media Spokesperson for almost a decade, I played a leadership role in continually promoting both the RDN as the nutrition expert and the Academy as the largest organization of food and nutrition professionals committed to improving the nation’s health and advancing the profession of dietetics. I continue to provide interviews in print, television, and electronic media outlets always promoting the RDN as the nutrition expert.
Chair, MAND Nominating Committee | Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Formerly Massachusetts Dietetic Association) | 2011 - 2010 | I was the Chairperson, thrice, of this committee, managing the recruitment of a slate of qualified nutrition professionals to run for an office. I was Chair of this committee from 2010 to 2011; 2004 to 2005; and 2002 to 2003. Each time I chaired the committee, we obtained a full slate of outstanding candidates.
Boston University Athletics Advisory Board Member | Boston University | 2021 - 2023 | I hold a leadership position on this board to support the University’s Division 1 athletic program and contribute to the development of policies, practices, and initiatives that are designed to further the educational objectives of the University and the needs of the athletes. Pertain issues addressed are those pertaining to academic integrity, community engagement by student-athletes, gender equity, and enhancing opportunities for under-represented minorities. I personally interview athletes, assess areas of improvement in the program, and develop solutions. |
Research continues to support the role of nutrition professionals in every area of practice, including in-patient and out-patient, private practice, research, education, community, food service, and public policy. While great strides have been made with expanded career opportunities and third-party reimbursement for our expertise, more needs to be done through continued vigilance. We need to all work together to channel our passions and expertise in order to continue an unified effort so that we become a stronger professional organization that supports its members and protects the public.
With my leadership, inclusiveness, management, and results-driven skill sets, I want to work with you as Speaker of the House to make AND the professional nutrition organization that will serve both your needs and those of the public.
