Director of Business Development | Management in Food and Nutrition Systems Dietetic Practice Group | 2019 - 2022 | In this role, I work with companies to collaborate with MFNS through numerous sponsorship opportunities. I coordinate these initiatives, including communication with our members, and acquire support for our educational webinars. We added virtual member focus groups as an offering, and held our first one earlier this year with future ones planned. These provide a chance for our business partners to connect directly with our members. By obtaining sponsors within the food & nutrition industry, I help to ensure that we remain in good financial standing, all while promoting our profession.
Affiliate Partnership Director | Dietitians in Business and Communications Dietetic Practice Group | 2020 - 2022 | In this role, I am serving in a new leadership position on the Executive Committee. This position focuses on supporting existing DBC members through state affiliates, while also striving to increase membership within the DPG. It is our goal to develop a State Affiliate Team that will eventually include 1-2 DBC members from each state, who will share relevant information with their affiliate & vice versa. Presentation opportunities and conducting focus groups are in the scope of this initiative. Diversity & inclusion will also be enhanced as we progress further with this important work.
Chair | Management in Food and Nutrition Systems Dietetic Practice Group | 2016 - 2017 | As Chair, I worked with the Executive Committee to revise our strategic plan. This process assisted us with ensuring that it was aligned with the Academy’s strategic plan. It also helped to confirm that we focused on providing pertinent continuing professional education, advanced the visibility of our members, and that we served as a quality resource for important Academy initiatives. In addition, I represented our DPG by co-presenting a live seminar & subsequent webinar entitled “Implementing Comprehensive Malnutrition Care through Effective Project Management”.
Treasurer | Management in Food and Nutrition Systems Dietetic Practice Group | 2013 - 2015 | As Treasurer, I was able to consistently utilize my financial skill-set gained as a director of multiple departments within a large hospital system. I advised the Executive Committee on the preparation of our annual budget, approved the collection of monies, contracts, as well as expenses. I also provided a financial update at each leadership meeting and helped to ensure that we remained in good financial standing. This assisted with meeting our goal for long-term success as a viable and essential dietetic practice group.
President | Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2009 - 2010 | As President, I had the privilege of leading a vibrant group of dietitians within our affiliate. We focused on our members and provided excellent educational opportunities. During the year, I developed and implemented a mentoring program for dietetics students. I also re-implemented our Kentucky Legislative Day at the Capital. This key event continues to highlight the importance of nutrition & public policy, as well as assists with developing quality working relationships with our state legislators. |
My vision for the future of our profession is to elevate the recognition of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists as dedicated experts in the areas of food & nutrition. As professionals, we have a responsibility to help build healthier communities. We also have a duty to support efforts that focus on social responsibility, as well as on diversity, equity & inclusion. At this critical time, we must use this incredible opportunity before us to utilize our expansive skill-sets to collaborate together and advocate for health, food security & wellness on a global scale.
Be active & engaged. That was a key message instilled in me long ago & it has continued to guide me throughout my career. I am strategic & passionate about growing our organization, and about building healthier communities. Let’s work together!
