1. Over decades of service to local, state, and national Academy groups have built strong networks which continue to grow. 2. Service as Treasurer and President of the Academy focused and strengthened my understanding of the requirements for leadership and strategy. 3. Feedback from colleagues and staff during service on the Academy BoD validated that I have these skills. 4. I have promoted and acted on these concepts in my "day job" roles and as a mentor to dietetics students. |

Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: | Leadership Skills used in this position: |
President-Elect, President, Immediate Past President | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2017 - 2020 | The President leads a diverse and talented team and is supported by a highly professional and knowledgeable staff and an extensive committee network. Contributions I made (with many others) include fostering a national focus on the importance of fighting malnutrition, reinstating the highly valued Leadership Institute, collaborating with the HLT to support a fast and flexible inquiry into governance, development of the revised Code of Ethics for the profession, and exploration of new options for educating and training students to grow the profession.
Treasurer-elect, Treasurer, Immediate Past Treasurer | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2010 - 2015 | Worked collaboratively with others to streamline the reporting of results to members of the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC), the HOD leaders and members, and the Academy members at large. We realigned the FAC composition to assure continuity and maximize the assurance to members that volunteers were intimately involved in monitoring Academy finances. After extensive and thoughtful deliberation, we allocated major resources to crucial Academy IT projects. Member of CEO Compensation Committee which (with external consultant) realigned CEO compensation to reflect market.
Member and Chair, Ethics Committee; Member Ethics Revision Task Force | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2012 - 2017 | Advocated for an early review of the 2009 Code of Ethics (typically done every 10 years) to reflect the Academy name and the current ethics landscape. The review was approved by the BoD and the revised Code published in 2018. Focused on the ethics of identifying and not treating malnutrition in the well-attended FNCE 2015 session. Encouraged the HOD to add an Ethics Committee member to the Sponsorship Advisory Task Force to assure that sponsorship is well positioned in the committee's and Academy members' ethical framework. Speak regularly to students and members about the Code.
Chair, Honors Committee | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2019 - 2020 | The volunteer members and expert staff work together to accomplish the vital work of this committee. My contributions focused on leading the committee through some challenging, very confidential issues and continuing (from previous service on the committee) the crucial work of determining how to modify and streamline the application and review process for maximum member and volunteer success.
VP Membership | Master Speakers at Baxter Toastmasters Club | 2015 - 2016 | Recruited to direct membership recruitment and satisfaction for this small and highly diverse employee group at Baxter. Developed role after President (who filled all roles himself) departed from the company. Solicited members during a time of significant change and challenge at the company. Led meetings and served as award-winning speech evaluator. |
