HOD At-Large Delegate: Retired |
|
The experience of being chair of a DPG and then delegate for that DPG has given me the opportunity to learn effective ways to engage my constituency.
As delegate, I found that communication needed to take place in multiple ways. By utilizing a combination of various on-line formats, such as email updates and surveys, networking where possible, and written communication, I was able to garner input and feedback from a larger number of constituents. As chair, I maintained the focus of the group on the strategic plan. In the process of creating and carrying out the specific action steps toward achieving the goals of the plan, obstacles emerge. These obstacles frequently represent both big and small issues impacting the profession. |

Personal and Campaign Statements
My excitement for the future of nutrition and dietetics is the increasing recognition that dietetics professions are receiving. This is evidenced by RDNs in television news reaching millions of viewers to the doctor requesting nutrition consults to policy makers reaching out to dietetic professionals seeing advice on a spectrum of food and nutrition issues. It is exciting to see this recognition which has grown considerably over the years of my practice.
In the role of Delegate-retired, I will reach out to other dietetic professionals who have maintained their passion for dietetics through retirement and wish to share the wisdom of their experiences in helping to move the profession forward.
