House of Delegates At-Large Delegates Position Description
Term
- Three-year terms
- One At-Large Delegate: Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered position, one At-Large Delegate: Early Practitioner, and one At-Large Delegate: Retired position
- Elected delegates serve a three-year term and may be elected to a second three-year term for a total of six consecutive years. After serving two consecutive three-year terms, one year away from the HOD is required before running for an At-Large Delegate position. Delegates appointed to complete a vacant term may still run for and serve two consecutive full terms.
- CDR and Student At-Large delegates serve a two-year term.
- No individual may serve more than 12 years in the HOD.
Part I: Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership in professional issues
- Demonstrated ability to network and communicate with one's peers and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to represent members' issues
- Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred
- Selected from outside of the HOD membership
For the At-Large Delegate: Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR)
- Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered member of the Academy in the Active or Retired classification
- Demonstrated leadership qualities to strengthen and expand Nutrition and Dietetics Technician programs and membership
For the At-Large Delegate: Early Practitioner
- Member of the Academy in the Active or Retired classification
- Credentialed RDN or NDTR for 5 years or less
For the At-Large Delegate: Retired
- Member of Academy in the Retired classification OR can demonstrate retirement from full time employment
Part II: Requirements
Time
The at-large delegate position requires a time commitment of approximately 2-3 hours per month. Time is needed for conference calls, correspondence, planning, etc. Employer support in advance is encouraged.
Overview of Meetings
- Live HOD Meetings for 90 minutes every other month (subject to change)
- Asynchronous work expected in alternating months

The universal skill set applies to all positions on the national ballot.
Specific to At-Large Delegates
- Ability to engage a constituent group and reflect on the issues of the group represented
- Effectively solicits and disseminates input and feedback
- Ability to identify and address trends and issues that impact the profession
- Networks and reflect the issues of the group represented
Part V: Functions
- Serves as a member of the House of Delegates
- Participates in HOD and BOD committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs functions, as needed, to assist in facilitating the work of the House
- Networks and reflect the issues of the group represented
- Serves as liaison to other groups as requested by the Speaker
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Speaker
