Leadership Experience
Leadership Position | Organization | Years Involved in the Organization | My specific leadership contributions, achievements and outcomes: |
National Media Spokesperson 2004-2013 | American Dietetic Association (rebranded as now Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) | - 2013 | During a pivotal time for nutrition professionals, when the American Dietetic Association transitioned to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I provided science-based nutrition information on national television and radio and to reporters for hundreds of print media outlets, promoting the Registered Dietitian as the food and nutrition expert. This branding launched a new era of enhanced professionalism for Registered Dietitians and DTR's. |
Personal and Campaign Statements
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics members can lead emerging trends: personalized nutrition, technology, sustainable food systems, diabetes, obesity, breastfeeding. Evidence-based practice (individualized diet plans, genetic and microbiome tests) improves disease burden and health. Technology (telehealth, health apps) increases accessibility and enhances compliance, behavior change and data-driven optimization. Sustainable food practice (plant-based diets, mindful eating, gardens) impacts food security and resource conservation. Education and skill development remain the core of dietetics.
I will actively engage and listen to retired members and present their needs and viewpoints as actionable issues to the House of Delegates. Their wisdom can bridge the past and present of our profession for a stronger future.
