Director-at-Large |
|
For the past nine years, I've served as a board member for the Puerto Rico affiliate; this past year as President. 2) I have leveraged the use of technology to provide our dietitians with educational sessions that are both accessible and that align with current competencies and needs. 3) With membership declining, I've encouraged student members to actively participate in board meetings to express their concerns and solutions to this issue. 4) As a puertorrican, I will proudly represent all Hispanic and Latino members and be their voice to advocate for current barriers and challenges faced. |

Registration/ Membership Chair | Puerto Rico Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2017 - 2019 | Help encourage new members to join the Academy and provide additional benefits to those who were already members. Use social media as a way to encourage members and non-members to become engaged with our affiliate through "Did you know" posts and Facebook Live sessions, among other efforts.
Continuing Education Coordinator | Puerto Rico Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2015 - 2017 | Based on the current President's education plan, contact and organize speakers for the various educational sessions offered by the affiliate. I would also provide detailed reports at the affiliate's monthly meetings about confirmed speakers, honorariums, and specific needs from each.
President | Puerto Rico Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2022 - 2023 | Host virtual and in-person education sessions that improve each individual's competencies, knowledge and skills set and that align with the new ACEND competencies (e.g. Workshop on NFPE on Pediatrics and Adults). Create an inclusive environment by having student members become more involved in the affiliate's decision-making process (e.g. opening participation and attendance to some board meetings). Attend the national conference and participate in networking events and advocate for more diversity and inclusion in the profession. |
We are living in a world of constant change and advances in technology and adapting to these trends is necessary in order to continue improving the health and wellbeing of our society. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are both here to stay. AI-assisted personalized nutrition is just one example of how impactful and limitless our profession can become, especially in an era where a one-size-fits-all approach is becoming outdated. Another important area is sustainable nutrition; understanding that the food we eat not only affects our bodies but also our planet.
I strongly believe that diversity, inclusion, equity and access are the drivers that will guarantee a more positive, forward-thinking, innovative, and brighter future for our beloved profession.
