Graduate Coordinator | Brigham Young University | 2022 - | I am responsible for coordinating the MS Food Science and MS Nutritional Science (two tracks: thesis and dietetic internship) graduate programs in my department. | I navigate competing priorities and resource allocation across three disciplines to assure we are student-focused and supporting the needs of each discipline. This involves working closely with the committee, department chair, and graduate faculty. |
Council on Research's Survey Review Subcommittee Chair | Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2023 - | I work with the committee to provide helpful and efficient survey feedback to students who want to distribute their survey research through the Academy's contact database. | As a committee, we all come from different research backgrounds and have our own styles. I work with the committee to provide thoughtful feedback and still allow students (and their mentors) to have their own style. It can be difficult to assess other peoples' work without wanting it to look like our own, and I encourage reviewers to be open-minded and focus on core elements. |
Conference Planning Committee | Foodservice Systems Management Council | 2022 - 2023 | I contributed vision for the conference. This was the first post-COVID live conference and it went very well. | When we were determining where to host the conference, we discussed a variety of options. I encouraged the group to select the area we were most connected and familiar to provide the best conference experience. Together, we had thoughtful conversations and gave consideration to all stakeholders' needs and perspectives. We made the decision to host near our university and it was a great experience. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
I am passionate about the dietetics profession, and I am committed through my work (teaching and research) and volunteerism to enhance how we recruit, educate, and support dietetics professionals. With the increasing demand for dietitians in the USA and declining college enrollments, it is important to continue refining how we determine competence for entry-level practitioners. My strengths include a management mindset and systems thinking. I also have specific expertise in foodservice and dietetics management.
Campaign Statement
