Advanced Practitioner in Clinical Nutrition Representative (RDN-AP) |
|
1)Working as part of the Advanced Practice panel I have actively participated in determining the qualifications of the credential in order to field as many excellent candidates for the credentialing exam. 2)Nutrition misinformation and the propagation of pseudoscience is prevalent; it is imperative that all dietitians are practicing at the same standard and those with the RD-AP uphold the highest standards. 3)I was amongst the first group who achieved the AP certification and have spent the last 8 years specializing in critical care, nutrition support and leading quality improvement projects |

State Policy Representative | Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | 2013 - 2014 | As the State Policy Representative, I oversaw the Public Policy Committee (PPC) and volunteers. During my tenure we successfully executed a Day on the Hill that brought together RDs and Massachusetts state legislators to address the link between food insecurity and childhood obesity. I maintained and created the annual budget for the PPC and provided quarterly reports to the Board of Directors. I attended the Public Policy Workshop and advocated for the Farm Bill, Ryan White CARE Act, Treat and Reduce Obesity Act. I’m most proud of my work to revitalize and expand our state PPC. |
What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
For future growth of the food and nutrition profession there needs to be an expansion of what is recognized as Medical Nutrition Therapy under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid guidelines and greatly expanded for all chronic illnesses. There needs to be further integration of dietitians into primary care and the creation and/or expansion for nutrition services for persons’ after a critical illness. The expansion of the role of the dietitian in a person’s rehabilitation and recovery, particularly for those who are rehabilitating t home, is an area of opportunity for dietitians.
