Chair Task Force - DPG and MIG Opportunities for Engagement and Growth - BOD appointed | Academy Nutrition and Dietetics | 2023 - 2024 | This Task Force is ongoing at this time. On a challenging topic, I have been able to work with longtime volunteers and staff to gain insights and input from many vested individuals and work towards positive recommendations for these significant and critical Academy programs.
Academy Foundation Chair | Academy Foundation | 2022 - 2023 | After serving on the Academy Foundation board since 2018 as a member, secretary, and chair-elect, in 2022-2023 I led the Foundation board actively and helped to introduce the current fund-raising campaign - Make It a Million. I successfully worked with longtime Academy members on the board and dedicated staff to achieve the goals of this important office. This included a year on the Academy Board of Directors and serving as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. During this year, I was also involved as an Academy board member with the CEO search.
President | Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (formerly AADE) | 2016 - 2016 | After having served ADCES in numerous leadership positions on committees, task forces over the prior two decades, and as president-elect during 2015, I served as president of the association. Working closely with the CEO I helped conduct the business of the organization during 2016 particularly rolling out a new 3-year strategic plan. I assisted in organizing the 2016 annual conference which had a record breaking attendance. I served as past-president, in 2017, which included serving as nominating committee chair. In 2021 I again served on the ADCES Nominating Committee.
Founding Member, Annual Symposium co-chair, etc | Weight Management DPG | 2009 - 2014 | Over the years I've held several leadership positions with WM DPG including member market site member, coordinator of continuing professional education for their newsletter and annual symposium committee member for 3 years.
Chair, numerous other positions over 30+ years | Diabetes DPG | 2009 - 2023 | I've been involved with DDPG most of my career, with early involvement in 1983 and continuing involvement that included serving as chair in 1989-1990. I've remained involved in DDPG in several ways over the decades, including as newsletter editor, theme section (of On the Cutting Edge) twice. In my role on the Academy Foundation board, I continue to engage with DDPG leadership and support their efforts to support our Foundation. |
Our Academy is at an exciting inflection point now being led by our transformational CEO. We have a burgeoning future yet challenges that large organizations face with members’ (and non-members’) disparate views, needs and desires. To catapult forward, we must attract talented, visionary and committed leaders. To achieve this, we must elect Nominating Committee members with deep networks of invested colleagues who also represent diversity broadly. As a long-involved member with nominating committee experience across associations, I will bring these skills to our Nominating Committee.
I seek your vote for the Academy Nominating Committee. I bring big picture thinking, a deep network of talented and invested colleagues, and insights into the current and future needs of our profession and the Academy as an organization. Please vote!
