NDEP | Preceptor Task Force Member | Jan 2016 - current | Co-author of: Border K, Endrizal CL, Cecil M. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Revised 2018 Standards of Professional Performance for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (Competent, Proficient, and Expert) in Education of Nutrition and Dietetics Practitioners. Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. 2019;119(1):124-136 I have been a preceptor since 1994 just a year after starting my first clinical dietetics position in a rural hospital. Since then, I have precepted many students over the past 25 years in my positions as Clinical Dietitian, Clinical Nutrition Manager, Outpatient Renal Dietitian, Homecare and Hospice Dietitian and Public Health Nutritionist. I was asked to volunteer with the NDEP Preceptor Task Force given my preceptor experience. I also bring to the table, 10 years of lecturing at the University of Hawai'i on Medical Nutrition Therapy, Cultural Humility and Basic Nutrition for Culinary Students. |
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Hawai'i Affiliate President | 2017 - 2018 | My biggest achievement is not mine alone. Our team of dietitians, lawyers, Academy leadership, and advocates for our profession (and it took a village!) achieved State Licensure in Hawai'i. |
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Hawaii Affiliate Public Policy Committee Member | 2009 - 2019 | This committee was instrumental in achieving State Licensure - it was a very long process. I was only on this committee the last 10 years of this journey. |
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Hawaii Affiliate Delegate | 2011 - 2014 | This position opened my eyes to how The Academy functions at a national level. I made lasting friendships and gained new mentors throughout the nation. I brought this experience back to Hawai'i and advocated for the Delegate position as one of the most exciting positions to hold within The Academy. |
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Hawaii Affiliate President | 2010 - 2011 | As President, I fulfilled my duties as well as engaged the University students and Preceptors to join and volunteer in whatever capacity fit them. Basically, I brought new energy and positive experiences to our Board (not my words). |
