Cardiovascular and Wellness DPG | Nominating Committee Chair | 2021-2023 | As the Nominating Committee chair for CV-Well, I managed the nominating committee and helped to recruit and develop the slate of candidates for the 2021 and 2022 DPG elections. I served as the Nominating Committee chair during the inaugural stage of CV-Well. Thus, I assisted in revising some of the job descriptions and the awards criteria and nomination process for CV-Well. In addition to these responsibilities, I co-authored several CV-Well Equipped articles in Pathways, the research-focused publication of the CV-Well DPG. These research-based articles focus on new products, tools, and trends. Examples of the topics included Food Safety of Plant-Based Meat Alternatives (Fall 2023), Food Waste Not, Want Not for Heart Well-Being (Summer 2023), Grocery Purchases Suggest Alternative Ways to Reduce your Carbon Footprint (Spring 2023), and Dietary Supplement Headwinds (Winter 2023). |
Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness DPG (2019) and Sports and Human Performance Nutrition DPG (2020) | Symposium Planning Committee Co-Chair | 2019, 2020 and 2021 | As part of the symposium planning committee, I collaborated with the planning committee, the DPG chair, and the Academy event services staff to help develop the symposium work plan, timeline, and budget. As a team, we developed a theme (Revolutionizing Nutrition for Human Performance) and educational tracks while also identifying and recruiting speakers and venues. During 2020, the annual symposium was planned for March. Unfortunately, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 public health pandemic. Working as a team, the planning committee and the elected and non-elected board positions successfully transitioned the symposium to an online conference. This required researching various online platforms and organizing, promoting, and recruiting speakers for the event. Some of the unique goals of the 2021 symposium included free admission to dietetic students and interns to improve the attendance and engagement of students and new RDNs. |
Los Angeles District of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Nominating Committee Chair | 2016-17 | As the Nominating Committee Chair, I helped to recruit and develop the slate of candidates for the Los Angeles District. I collaborated with my co-chair to promote qualified members to be nominated and elected. During 2017, we worked to seek leaders from underrepresented groups and encouraged new RDNs to become involved with the Los Angeles District. |
Orange District of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Past President, President, and President Elect | 2008-2010 | As president-elect, I served as the chair of the annual Orange District Conference Planning Committee, where we successfully planned the educational track, secured a location, recruited speakers, and promoted the conference. In 2008, the conference focused on clinical nutrition, and I secured sponsorship for the meeting. These funds were used to partially cover the speakers' costs and food costs. As president, my primary responsibility includes supervising and actively managing the Orange District elected and non-elected board positions, including planning all meetings and training the president-elect. During my term as president and president-elect, our team focused on creating scholarships for dietetic interns and nutrition students. |
