American Society for Nutrition | Early Career Representative, Energy and Macronutrient Metabolism Research Interest Section (RIS) | Yearly, since 8/2022 | As a member of the EMM RIS, I work with other leadership team members to foster community by providing programming, communications, and engagement opportunities to the RIS members. Last year, I helped develop a questionnaire to gauge RIS member interest in specific topics for the EMM forum at the ASN annual meeting. This year, I suggested adding a “Meet your Leadership Group” webinar to encourage networking amongst the RIS members and in-person attendance at the annual meeting in July. We also advise ASN on issues and opportunities within our interest area and lead the RIS steering committee to complete key tasks, such as identifying reviewers for abstracts, confirming abstract categories, and going over annual meeting programming (oral/poster sessions, forums). Last year, I was involved in the selection process for our speaker at the EMM forum at the ASN annual meeting. This year, I will be involved in helping to review abstract submissions to select finalists for a travel and poster award. We meet bi-monthly to plan and discuss yearly activities. |
Nucleate New York | Director, Partnerships and Sponsorships | Yearly, since 8/2022 | Nucleate is a student-led organization that represents the largest global community of bio-innovators. Our mission is to empower the next-generation of biotech leaders by educating today's academic trainees. As Director of Partnerships and Sponsorships for the New York region, my major responsibilities include (1) systematically reviewing our current partnerships strategy and identifying areas of improvement, (2) proposing improvements to our partnership strategy spanning all of our partnerships verticals and major activities, and (3) collaborating with team members and other initiatives to implement proposed changes. Leading a team of 5 - 8 partnerships leads, I identify strategic partners within the greater NYC biotech ecosystem to meet our regional fundraising and programming goals. This role involves frequent collaboration with other key leaders in expert/mentor communications, and community/events planning. |

Binghamton University (SUNY) | John L. Fuller Memorial Award for Excellence in Research in Integrative Neuroscience | 2015 | The John L. Fuller Memorial Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research in Integrative Neuroscience was established in memory of Dr. Fuller, former distinguished faculty member in the Psychology Department. The award is presented to a single graduating senior that has shown excellence in research through the completion of an honors project. I studied taste and smell preference changes in people who have undergone RYGB surgery in collaboration with a bariatric surgeon in Syracuse, NY. |
Binghamton University (SUNY) | Integrative Neuroscience Honors for Distinguished Independent Research | 2015 | Outstanding students in Integrative Neuroscience who have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, and a minimum major GPA of 3.3 are encouraged to participate in the honors program. The program requires preparation of an honors thesis consisting of a proposal, data collection, written analysis, and an oral defense. Successful completion results in graduation with distinguished independent research. I received honors for my work investigating taste and odor preference changes after bariatric surgery (Honors Thesis: Taste and Odor Preference Changes Following Bariatrics Surgery and their Effect on Successful Weight Loss). Ultimately my work led to a first author publication in PLoS ONE (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0199508) and a poster presentation at the American Society for Neuroscience Annual Conferece (2015) that was selected as a hot topic. |
Teachers College, Columbia University | Teachers College Scholarship | 2015 | My first year of attendance at Teachers College, Columbia University, I was awarded the Teachers College Scholarship in the amount of $8,724.00, equivalent to six academic credits, for the year. This scholarship is provided to incoming students who have high academic merit and whom the advisors feel would be an exceptional fit for the nutrition program at Teachers College. |
