North Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | President | 3 years | I led the merger combining 2 of our FL districts to form the "new" North Florida Acasdemy of Nutrition and Dietetics (NFAND) district. The merger entailed rebranding our entire organization, rebuilding the bylaws, and establishing student committees, among many other tasks. We currently have 8 committees composed of 38 graduate students. Our NFAND district membership is at 119 members, which is a nearly 400% increase from June 1, 2023. We have hosted events offering more than 21 CEUs for RDNs in the past 7 months. |
Research DPG, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Mentorship Chair | 1 year | As Mentorship Chair with the Research DPG (RDPG), I manage the mentorship program. Duties include advertising and recruiting mentors and mentees; matching the pairs based on suitability and needs; introducing the pairs and ensuring they connect; sending monthly talking points, administering the final evaluations; and preparing the final report for the RDPG Chair. For the 2023-2024 Mentorship Program, we tried some new things such as email recruitment and increased social media presence to provide an inclusive space for RDNs to participate both inside and outside of academia. As a result, we were able to match 14 mentor-mentee pairs, many of whom are not students nor professors. We also have some junior faculty matched with senior faculty, which is really great to see. As a former clinician, I felt it was important to create a space for clinicians to be mentored by experienced researchers to learn how to get started with research in practice. |
Nutrition Care Process Terminology Board of Editors, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Member | 3 years | As a member of the NCPT Board of Editors, I utilize my experience with research concerning the NCP/NCPT to provide input and share user perspective on NCPT-related resources including but not limited to eNCPT, webinar topics, case studies, books, tutorials, and implementation. I participate as a reviewer of the NCPT website redesign, reference sheet components, narrative content, and matrixes. I advise on the NCP Review and determine best use of NCP “Guide” manual. I support updates to the NCP Review and the NCPT Tutorial and Quiz. I help develop CEU opportunities, FNCE presentations, and other efforts to teach NCP/NCPT to RDNs and students. |
Council on Future Practice, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Member | 3 years | As a member of the Council on Future Practice, I help ensure the viability and relevance of the profession of nutrition and dietetics via engaging in a visioning process to initiate recommendations for general practice roles, specialist practice roles and advanced practice roles. We identify future specialist and advanced practice roles to meet emerging practitioner and marketplace needs and seek input and feedback from relevant Academy organizational units on issues related to future practice roles. We coordinate with ACEND, CDR, NDEP, and other Academy organizational units to communicate and collaborate to determine current and future practice, credentialing, and education recommendations, and we monitor the intended and unintended consequences of implementing current and future practice, credentialing and education recommendations. Tangible products of our efforts include the Change Driver Briefs we publish through the Academy. My particular work group is finalizing a brief concerning ways RDNs/NDTRs can advocate for the dietetics profession through interprofessional collaboration. |
ANDHII Subcommittee, Council on Research, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics | Member | 2 years | As a member of the ANDHII subcommittee, I use my experience with use and research of ANDHII to help develop and implement strategies to increase awareness of ANDHII’s function in research, including the purpose, capabilities, and benefits of using ANDHII to collect data to study nutrition care practices and nutrition outcomes. I provide advice and feedback on current and future research initiatives; for example, strategies to enhance recruitment of participating dietitians, or strategies to improve training on data entry. I provide advice on how to reduce barriers to participation in ANDHII research and identify opportunities for future research initiatives utilizing data entry, including initiatives that study diverse range of cultures and populations. As a member of the educator taskforce, I lead by example and implement ANDHII into dietetics education creating familiarity with future practitioners. Major products from participation in this subcommittee since Feb 2022 include a near-final ANDHII Case Study Toolkit for educators; one near-final manuscript on the process of conducting ANDHII registry studies; three journal publications regarding ANDHII registry studies; three ANDHII-related poster presentations; one ANDHII-related published FNCE abstract, and one ANDHII-related FNCE session. |
