What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
COVID-19 has exacerbated anti-establishment and anti-science sentiments and increased awareness of health disparities. We must use evidence-based practice and compassionate communication to be leaders in solving these problems and maintaining the public’s interest in health and wellness beyond the current crisis. Evidence-based practice requires both 1) critical thinking to evaluate scientific literature and synthesize that information with professional expertise, while not excluding potential new therapies, and 2) careful communication to incorporate patient preferences.
