In 1983, as a senior at the University of Florida majoring in Food Science and Human Nutrition, I set my sights on becoming a registered dietitian (RD). It was a challenging path, but I dedicated my career to mentoring aspiring RDs and giving back to the profession. I started my private practice with the goal of educating both the community on nutrition and students on how to succeed as entrepreneurial dietitians. Over the past 30 years, I’ve promoted health and well-being through evidence-based nutrition, specializing in clinical nutrition, community wellness, and food service management. I’ve also actively supported credentialing, recognizing its importance in establishing professional standards and public trust. By advocating for continuing education and mentoring future dietitians, I aim to uphold the highest standards in our field and continue to support minorities in dietetics through my own Instagram that Black Dietitians Matter. |

For over 30 years, I have strived to implement wellness strategies for communities that are marginalized and under-funded through the development of culturally competent programming. We provided over 6 million dollars of funding to underserved communities through the development of teaching kitchens, mobile farmers markets, and personalized classes for men, women, and children in English, Spanish, and Creole. | I developed a great working relationship with the fund manager of the hospital and an insurance agency. I was able to demonstrate the need to create culturally relevant programming in marginalized communities and develop the first mobile farmers market bus in Florida. This has led to over 2 million dollars of direct programs to over 100,000 participants and patrons that contributed to the development of consistent access for participants to seek advice from dietitians and to receive fresh produce in food desert communities. |

What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
As a dietitian, I see tremendous opportunities for our profession to lead the charge in addressing health disparities. Emerging trends, such as personalized nutrition, cultural competency in healthcare, and the growing awareness of social determinants of health, call for dietitians who understand the unique challenges and strengths of diverse populations. By embracing our role as both healthcare providers and advocates, we can foster trust, empower communities, and create culturally relevant nutrition interventions to address systemic inequities, ultimately improving health outcomes for all.
Campaign Statement
As a registered dietitian with 30+ years of experience, I offer expertise and leadership to support the Academy’s Strategic Plan, driving impactful initiatives for all dietitians. I'm your leader, I'm Roniece Weaver.
