CDR Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) |
|
I am an author and co-editor of the 2nd edition of the pocket guide to bariatric surgery and have published guidelines for ASBMS bariatric nutrition. In 2013 the new Bariatric accreditation standards stated that a Bariatric coordinator must be a licensed nurse. I wrote letters to ASMBS and MBSAQIP leadership to have this language changed so that dietitians could fill the role of the Bariatric coordinator. Along these lines I have supported the development of CDR's CSOWM throughout the process. |

What do you see as opportunities for the future of the nutrition and dietetics profession?
We must promote health by providing education and availability of nutrient dense food and nutrition services for the treatment and prevention of overweight and obesity. In order to do this we must address food insecurity, food choice and behavior change. We need to take into account prevention and healthcare for the public as well as reimbursement for nutrition services. We must collaborate with other organizations through research, innovation, and clinical evidence.
Campaign Statement
I have promoted the RD in weight management, including my support of CDR's CSOWM. This will elevate the expertise of the RD in weight management. My skills as an educator will provide leadership in the lifelong learning needs of our profession.
